The boys are back in town.
It’s an early start today seeing that I was in the shower at 5 am. Mark Brzezicki and my nephew Will Peters head for Beverley… Hills that is, Hollywood Hill– swimming pools and movie stars! Our first rendezvous point is meeting up at Mel’s Diner, on Sunset with Billy Duffy. I have to also get on a conference call with the Love Hope Strength board members to give an update from the road and to discuss various aspects of the charity and ways to cope with the growth of our ‘Get On The List’ campaign. Next up is another long conference call about something exciting that is going to happen in Washington DC on September 10th (all being well….). It’s all good and in between calls we make arrangements to meet at Barney’s Beanery in the evening for some drinks and a social.
Mark B, Will and I head over to the Valley side of Los Angeles to a Western Store on Van Nuys called ‘Country General’. I tried loads of things on but everything I wanted was unavailable in my size so a bit disappointing. As we drove around LA, Mark was filling me in with stories of past Big Country tours and showing me the running routes he and Stuart Adamson used to frequent when recording the ‘Peace In Our Time’ album over a 5 month period in 1988.
We rolled back over the hills via Mulholland Drive and dropped down to the Farmers Market / The Grove and then on to Barney’s for a meet with Billy Duffy and Oli Powell (Robert Plant’s production manager and long time Alarm sound engineer) and also Stash (who is one of the directors of the Love Hope Strength movie that is currently in the works). Matt Cunningham (Sometime Alarm T-shirt merchandiser and Golf Pro) turns up too. Mark Brzezicki is very excited as a number plate he brought from the UK that belonged to his first ever car is still hanging on the wall.
Barney’s is a great LA hangout and we all used to come here back in the 80’s and in between beers both alcoholic and non alcoholic alike, we recall stories of pool tournaments with Larry Mullen from U2 and a host of other Brits abroad…. A great night was had by all.
